About us

We are Beyond Roots, a group of friends that have joined efforts in order to provide an Immersion in Afro Cuban Culture. Growing up in Guanabacoa, one of the strongest exponents of this culture, we were raised under the living legacy of our African ancestors. Now we have an authentic passion for educating people about this misunderstood topic.  We want to share with you the feeling of our community, transmit you a knowledge that has been passed from generations and show you its influence in the daily life of the Cubans from different perspectives. In this particular experience we’ll teach you about the divination system and the rituals of a Babalawo.

What will we do?

In Havana we say: “If you have too many problems at the same time, you need to go to Guanabacoa. There you will find the solution” Would you like to know why?? Come and find out in this experience.

We will explain you the importance of the “Divination process” as the base of the Afro Cuban Culture. How do we start? We will meet you at Café Galería Mamainé where we will take a taxi to go to Guanabacoa: The cradle of Afro-Cuban culture. Once there, we will visit the house of a “Babalawo”--the highest priest of Santería, where he will give you an introduction to the Afro Cuban Religions explaining the divination means that are used in each one for looking into people´s past, present and future. You will witness an ancient legacy passed down to us by our ancestors in order to give us advices and warnings, so that you can follow the right path in life. With this experience you will have the unique opportunity, if you wish so, to have a private reading with the Babalawo. Your very own spiritual therapy

Note:

Once we finish the experience, we will open a small Afro Cuban Souvenir Shop for you to enjoy unique products especially crafted. This will be an amazing opportunity for you to support local talents.
